In Korea, aging of agricultural population and the decreasing number of farmers are intensifying. However, due to the retirement of the baby boom generation and the increase in the number of residents who want to live in the rural life.
In this study, we surveyed from 30 farmers who have been recommended by the National Agricultural Technology Center, from April 27 to October 25, 2016, using semi-structured questionnaires.
After analyzing their characteristics, we will look for a successful settlement plan for the farmers who will settle in the future rural areas.
The main results are as follows. first, the general characteristics of agricultural activities are as follows: the average agricultural scale was 1.6ha, 53.3% of the urban-to-rural migrants' were farming in their own land, and 30.2% of cultivated crops were dominated by fruit trees, agricultural sales were about 11,283 ten thousand wonm, the net profit was about 5,184 ten thousand won, 63.6% of the respondents said that thery are engaged in non-agricultural income activities, and the non-agricultural income is about 1,184 ten thousand won.
Second, the percentage of returning to farming before 2009As a result of the urban-to-rural migrants' perception of success, 36.7% recognized that they were successful, and 46.7% answered that they are not currently successul but are trying to successful. Asked what are the criteria for success in returning to farm, the results showed that the following were creating profit and affordabe economic life(21.6%), self-satisfaction(18.9%) and composure(16.2%). The main reasons of success were family cooperation(23.8%) and positive values(11.9%).
In conclusion, for successful settlement of urban-to-rural migrants', should have sufficient preparation period for migration, go to rural with their families, and we will have to build a income structure other than agricultural income. To do this, the urban-to-rural migrants' who leads the farm should persuade the family members before urban-to-rural migration. The urban-to-rural migrants' should strive for efforts to improve the value added of agricultural products by having agricultural skills by earning sufficient pre-farming education.
