This panel event is a discussion that begins with panel members presenting key challenges and future foci of research as emerging out of talks at the RUPRI meeting (March 21-22, 2018 in Washington, D.C.). The main theme is Looking Forward – what do we need to study and theorize as regards social and demographic change in rural areas, policy issues, and economic development? Part of the conversation is determining the major next steps we can take to improve the lives of low-income people in rural areas and small towns of America. The objective is to continue this conversation, working from the March conference in D.C. and developing a broad collective agenda moving forward. We also hope to make connections in the future development of this agenda with agricultural economists and other rural poverty scholars.
