On March 15, 2012 a Royal Norwegian Air Force C-130 aircraft was scheduled to fly from Narvik, Norway to the northern Swedish town of Kiruna to pick up troops after a joint Norwegian and Swedish military training exercise. The aircraft, with the call sign Haze 1, took off with a crew of four and one passenger. Shortly after, the aircraft slammed into the side of Kebnekaise, the highest mountain in Sweden. There were no survivors.
This presentation will examine the contributory factors to this accident and the safety barriers, which failed to prevent the accident. The presentation will briefly look at the recommendations from the accident investigation to improve Swedish civil aviation as a result of this accident.
