Printed Electronics technology is a collection of methods that are used for the creation of electronic devices on various substrates. Different technologies can be used to print on the substrates such as screen printing, 3D printing, inkjet printing, flexography etc. The key benefits of printed electronics in the military UAV sector are lighter weight, lower complexity and higher reliability leading to lower maintenance requirements. Printed Electronics reduces wiring in flight instrumentation payloads, in-flight entertainment systems, sensors, smart antennas, aircraft structural health monitoring and aircraft subsystems identification and authentication. Printed Electronics reduces weight, replace existing systems in a smaller volume and add new capabilities without impacting the target power and weight budgets. Aerospace applications demands corrosion resistant and high conductivity materials. Printed Electronics offer multiple advantages for considering to use this technology in aerospace projects.
