The following abstract expounds on a Drivmatic® CNC automatic drilling & fastening solution designed & engineered to meet the industrial automation needs of an aero structure manufacturer producing aircraft panel assemblies with demanding process requirements. The GEMCOR G12 solution shown in Figure 1.0 provided a Tier 2 supplier capability to efficiently supply the entire rate of specific fuselage panel assemblies for a large commercial aircraft program without having any previous automatic drilling & fastening experience.
The automation technology integrated for skin to stringer & skin to window frame fastening were five-axis All-Electric CNC fastening systems coupled with a Cenit offline part programming system. The G12 design emphasis revolved around optimized CNC positioner components to achieve a unique machine design that could reduce or eliminate foundation requirements while providing vertical loading capability at floor level.
