This paper reviews existing literature on new firm survival in developing economies and highlight the critical future research needs in this area. The paper paves a way for future research agenda by systematically reviewing relevant literature and offering suggestions for studying new firm survival in developing economies. A systematic literature review was conducted on main management and entrepreneurship journals. The paper finds that few articles published in top management and entrepreneurship journals study new firm survival in developing economies. Majority of the 69 articles reviewed, basically, studied firm performance in China and India and applied theories that were developed and tested in the developed world. The paper calls for exploring the dynamics of context in developing economies and their influence on entrepreneurial activities. Generally, the paper argues for context specific research of new firm survival in developing economies for knowledge development and a paradigm shift in entrepreneurship scholarship.
