This study investigates the contribution of material culture [woodcarving and basketry] in household socio-economic enterprise. The study is guided by the Theory of Practice (Pierre Bourdieu, 1977). Using ethnography twelve producers, four key informants and 36 discussants in Engari-sya and Kanoni sub-counties, Kiruhura district provided data which was analyzed under the three tenets of the theory such as habitus, field and capital. Results revealed that households use material culture in socioeconomic enterprises. Material culture items have both internal and external markets making them a viable market items. The incomes accruing from sales support educational requirements, hospital bills and other household requirements. This contributes to socio-economic transformation of communities.
