The ongoing collaborative relationships between firms can induce the firms to create new ventures. By combining the insights from sensemaking and entrepreneurship perspective, we propose a mediated moderation model that integrates the link between interfirm adaptation and corporate venturing. We submit that the creation of new corporate venturing will depend on interfirm adaptation, such as a symbiosis mechanism, and the mediating role of sensemaking, and on a contingent factor, namely structure-style fit. The findings indicate that firms can effectively promote corporate venturing when interfirm adaptation interacts with a higher level of structure-style fit and via sensemaking, suggesting that interesting opportunities for corporate venturing research in sensemaking.
