The purpose of this symposium is to present ongoing research from a network of scholars within a recently concluded UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded series of workshops on social responsibility among small and medium enterprises (SMEs), herein referred as small business social responsibility (SBSR). We continue to observe that although SMEs and micro-entrepreneurs constitute the backbone of economies in emerging and developing countries, social responsibility and SMEs in developing countries have been largely neglected in business and management research. This symposium seeks to consolidate our learning on SBSR since the launch of the ESRC project at the AFAM conference in Botswana until today. The papers presented will provoke discussions with the intention of outlining an agenda for future research on SBSR in developing countries.
