There is considerable investment in stimulating entrepreneurship in Africa and other emerging markets. One barrier encountered is that many entrepreneurs lack the managerial experience and expertise to grow their businesses from one-person operations into more substantial enterprises. This lack of “managerial capital” prevents entrepreneurs from scaling operations and, where appropriate, qualifying to participate in global company supply chains.
