There have been some key developments in understanding leadership in the African context. This PDW provides a multi-faceted perspective on leadership in organizations by discussing current insights from research at the micro (individual), strategic and entrepreneurial leadership domains. Presenters will highlight the major research areas within these three domains and more importantly explore the extent to which current leadership theories and empirical findings fit with leadership research in the African context. Specifically, presentations will explore the potential limits of current theoretical approaches that are primarily developed in the western context. The discussions will also feature the apparent paradoxes and contradictions inherent in the effort to extend current leadership theories at the micro, strategic and entrepreneurial domains to the African context. Finally, the PDW will conclude with promising areas of research directions for scholars interested in advancing leadership research in Africa.
