In recent years, the promotion of entrepreneurship in Africa has received considerable interest from governments, scholars, and international organizations. As many studies have indicated, this promotion has focused on government actions directed at correcting market failures. International institutions have been actively involved in supporting the efforts of governments in Africa to promote private enterprise by training and providing micro-loans to potential entrepreneurs, particularly women. Our understanding of the “public” entrepreneurship phenomenon in Africa is still limited.
In response to this rising topic of interest, we organize a PDW to involve scholars and practitioners to generate dialogue, linking theory and practice and advance knowledge about public entrepreneurship by formulating vital questions and constructing models with scientific and practical implications. PDW participants will gain knowledge of public entrepreneurship as a management phenomenon; establish a research agenda in the promising area of public entrepreneurship; and, build a support network of other entrepreneurship scholars.
