Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to explore the experiences of employed women with disabilities in relation with before and after securing employment opportunity. The article presents majorly on the attitudinal and structural barriers faced by women with disabilities before and after securing employment.
Method: In-depth interview with 13 employed women with disabilities were used to explore the work experiences of interviewees.
Results: The result of the study indicate that work experiences are influenced by attitudinal and structural barriers. Moreover, the result shows that attitudinal and structural barriers employed women with disabilities face resulted in the underutilization of their skills and capabilities in organization. The result similarly indicates the limitation attitudinal and structural barriers create on the opportunities of employed women with disabilities can get from their organizations.
Conclusion: Most organizations face externally and internally imposed standards of hiring and promotion and workplace conditions.
