During the last few years sharing economy, also referred to as collaborative economy or even on-demand economy, has been changing the world around us. It is hard to imagine a future where a person or an industry would remain unaffected by its impact. This paper provides an overview of what sharing economy might mean for the development of the African continent (with concrete examples from the fields of transportation, hospitality and finance). The paper also incorporates the concept of ubuntu as possible explanation for the future adoption of sharing economy concepts and practices.
