Laura Jo Gunter BioLaura Jo Gunter is currently the Senior Vice President Academic, George Brown College. Her portfolio includes all Academic Divisions, the Office of Applied and Institutional Research, Academic Services and Student Affairs, and the Office of the Registrar.Prior to joining George Brown College, Ms. Gunter was a Dean of Information, Arts and Technology at Seneca College, and Campus Principal at the Seneca at York Campus for eight years.Ms. Gunter’s previous professional academic experience was in Vancouver, B.C., where she was Vice-President Programming, Special Projects and Industry Partnerships for the Vancouver Film School (VFS). Before VFS, she was the Continuing Education Program Director for Applied Science at Simon Fraser University.In addition, Ms Gunter has had entrepreneurial experience, including start-up company launches. She was CEO and co-founder of Condition30 Inc., a software and game company based in Toronto and Vancouver. As well, Ms. Gunter was Vice President of Creative and Community for the B.C.-based company User Friendly Media.Ms. Gunter has a Bachelor of Journalism degree from Carleton University, and a Masters of Business Administration from Queen’s University. She has been a Board member and Chair of Coordinating Committee of Vice Presidents Academic.

Connecting people is my passion and profession. I have applied this pursuit through work in international criminal law and intellectual property law, global health, software development and education. I currently work with students, staff and faculty at Canada's universities to leverage Lynda.com and LinkedIn to achieve their academic and professional goals. I also try to further LinkedIn's vision to create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce via its Economic Graph.I am a partner at Functional Imperative and Lighthouse Labs, the software development firm and immersive software development bootcamp I co-founded in Toronto and Vancouver. I teach global health at McMaster University, sit on the Committee for the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema and I consult for the Multiplicity Accelerator and Cobalt Counsel. I also advise the non-profit behind the Health Impact Fund, a new means of incentivizing access to medicines in addition to a number of high-tech startups. In addition, I collaborate with my mother on mixed media art exhibitions.I have clerked for the Supreme Court of Israel and articled at the intellectual property litigation boutique Gilbert's LLP. In addition to acting as the Executive Director of McGill’s International Criminal Law Clinic and Chair of the Global Education Platform's Technology and Delivery Committee, I have worked for Foreign Affairs Canada, McGill’s Centre for IP Policy and UofT’s Munk Center. I have degrees in civil and common law from McGill University and received my B.A. in International Relations and Archetypal Mythology from the University of Toronto. I have interned at Human Rights Watch and on Radovan Karadzic and Ieng Thirith's defense teams at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. I have conducted research for Professors Margaret MacMillan, Payam Akhavan, Frederic Megret, Paul Litt, Sylvia Ostry and Goran Sluiter, among others.
