Julian joined CANARIE in 2017 as the Manager of Cybersecurity, responsible for the CANARIE corporate network and NREN core network cybersecurity. Julian leads CANARIE’s information security projects and works actively on keeping the network safe by testing and adopting new Information Security technologies. He also regularly participates in discussions with the global NREN community to coordinate cybersecurity initiatives. Prior to joining CANARIE, Julian worked for 13 years in IT security at Rio-Tinto, Bell Canada, and Northwestel on a network that provides Internet service for the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Prior to his work in the private sector, Julian worked in academia for 12 years as a university professor. Julian holds a PhD in Computer Science, with a specialization in Information Security.
