Gerry Miller

Gerry is Executive Director of MRnet, responsible for the management and operation of the Manitoba research and education network which serves the provincial, national and international connectivity needs of all Manitoba post secondary institutions including universities and colleges as well as the K-12 sector and research labs. Previously, Gerry was Executive Director of Information Services and Technology at the University of Manitoba, responsible for management of all computing, networking, telecommunications and media services in support of teaching, research and administration.Gerry has also been involved in many national and provincial networking activities including CA*net and MBnet. He has also been involved with CANARIE as Treasurer and board member as well as many national initiatives including Smart Communities, Community Access Program, Schoolnet, the Information Highway Advisory Council I and II, the National Broadband Task Force, and the Anti-Spam Task Force.
Jill Kowalchuk
CANARIE
Jill has been an ambitious driver and advocate for the advancement of Canada’s technology and innovation sectors for 15 years. Jill is the National Research and Education Network (NREN) Coordination Manager at CANARIE, where she manages the NREN virtual organization that includes CANARIE and the twelve provincial and territorial partners. The NREN is an essential collective of people, tools, services and digital infrastructure that provides a collaborative environment to advance Canadian leadership in research, education and innovation. Before joining CANARIE Jill was the General Manager for Paradocs Mountain Software while also running her own business. As the past President of Compute Canada, Jill spearheaded Compute Canada’s incorporation as a not-for-profit organization and was responsible for overseeing a national platform of advanced computing infrastructure and distributed technical teams. Prior to her role with Compute Canada, Jill was the CEO of WestGrid and Vice-President, Project and Partnership Development at Cybera Inc.
David Smith
ORION
David joined ORION as Chief Technology Officer in 2018. He is a collaborative technology leader with a strong track record of delivering innovative products and services.At ORION, Ontario’s only research and education network, David is responsible for network strategy, operations and engineering. He also has responsibility for the cybersecurity team, including their unique shared Chief Information Security Officer pilot program.Prior to joining ORION, David held a variety of senior roles in technology and networking. He has developed telecom infrastructure for data and wireless communications, smartphone technologies, and strategies for connected and autonomous vehicles.David holds both an MASc and BASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He also holds the Chartered Director (C.Dir) designation from the Directors College.
Todd Williams
Higher-Ed IT Shared Services
Todd is an IT Leader and strategist focused on making a difference in Nova Scotia's Post-Secondary Education system. He is the Executive Director of Higher-Ed IT Shared Services, a consortium of 11 colleges and universities responsible for leading the collaborative management of IT cost and risk.He is also the Executive Director for ACORN-NS the regional partner to the National Research and Education Network (NREN). Todd is a member of the NREN Governing committee and the chair of the CANARIE/NREN Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) project working group.Todd is a fellow, and past national chair of the Canadian Institute of Management Consultants. Throughout his extensive career, he has guided the transformation of organizations in the education, healthcare, financial, retail, and not for profit sectors to successfully align their people processes and technology with the evolving needs of their business.
