Alex-Sander Amável Luiz was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais-Brasil where he lives nowadays. He got the Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in 1993. Since 1996 he has been with Centro Federal de Educação Tecnológica de Minas Gerais at the Department of Electrical Engineering. There he works as Associated Professor teaching courses such as Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Energy Conversion in undergraduate and graduate levels. His study fields encompass the design and development of high-power and high efficiency ac drives and low-harmonics power converters. His research interests include also real time control, active and passive harmonic filters, electrical drives and alternative energy generation.

Abstract

This paper presents a study of an alternative five level inverter for medium voltage ac drives based on neutral point clamped concepts. The main advantage of this topology is its higher voltage operation compared to the... [ view full abstract ]
