We aim to set a photo exhibit showing various aspects of the livelihoods of Amazonian fishing communities, including fishing activities, community organization, participation in research activities and relationships with nature. The photos were made by six photographers who were also part of the research team of the research project ‘Linking sustainability of small-scale fisheries, fishers’ knowledge, conservation and co-management of biodiversity in large rivers of the Brazilian Amazon’ and the photos were taken during research trips to the Tapajos and Negro Rivers in the Brazilian Amazon, in 2016 and 2017. The intended exhibit should include 20 photos in A3 format, but the number of photos could be adjusted depending on the venue and space available. We hope with this exhibit to draw attention of the world for the Amazonian region, its conservation challenges and the people who live from the land and water in this remote tropical region. We also want to make a tribute to the people who collaborate in our research, besides showing the backstage of research activities. We hope also to alert the scientific community about the fisheries management problems and development impacts, such as overfishing and large dams, which can affect the Brazilian Amazon and the Amazonian people. We believe this exhibit will brings diversity to this conference, besides adding cultural value and leisure opportunity of relaxing viewing nice photos. A sample of photos is provided attached.
