Component 1 of the Nearshore Framework calls for a comprehensive assessment of nearshore waters in the Great Lakes Basin. Environment and Climate Change Canada is currently finalizing the first full assessment across the north shore of Lake Erie and the Huron-Erie Corridor. The presentation will highlight the results of a three phase assessment, including delineation of the nearshore into regional units, the overall condition assessment, and biological verification of the findings. From the results, areas of high ecological value were identified, along with areas of high stress.
Component 2 of the Framework is focused on Action, including disseminating the assessment results and sharing tools and data to support locally-led collaboratives. Examples of password protected databases and visualization tools will be shared, along with a public facing online mapping platform to support a new local collaborative in the Eastern Basin of Lake Erie.
