Federation University has four key goals for scholarships, bursaries and grants:
1. Improve retention – remove the financial reason for students not continuing with higher education at Federation University
2. Remove financial barriers – ensure that finance is not a reason quality students are not engaging with higher education at Federation University
3. Facilitating pathways for "disadvantaged" students to access higher education at Federation University
4. Increasing aspiration to higher education at Federation University for local, national and international students.
FedUni has moved from a revenue based model, that is, basing the financial offerings on the revenue source or type, to a student centred approach where the offering is based on what students need and a range of products that meet students needs.
Rebranding and removing stigmatising branding, removing barriers to application, and reducing and consolidating the offerings, has resulted in 1)more students applying and being eligible; 2) students receiving more appropriate and timely funding and 3)improved compliance with privacy and data retention legislation. All of this aimed at improving retention and reducing financially based hardship.
Discussion: Can we further de-stigmatise financial assistance for students.
