In February 2011, the Equity and Diversity Unit called for expressions of interest from staff, via its email network, to join an Ally network.
Since then the network has become a key point of contact for those at Deakin who are gender and sexually diverse, those who wish to support this diversity and those who have something to share with this small but active community of people. The network participates in IDAHOT events each year as well contributing to Deakin’s Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) submission. Deakin has continued to improve its AWEI score over the past five years.
Deakin’s Ally Network is active across all campuses with some very determined members at our Warrnambool campus ensuring that the message of equality is shared across all of our campuses.
This presentation will cover what has worked for us at Deakin as well as some of the challenges in building our Ally program.
