In recent years, the augmented reality (AR) technology has been widely spread and has been attempted to be applied to various applications in the construction field. The present authors have been proposed a visualization system using smart devices for the environmental flow simulation based on the marker-less AR method, which uses the landscape image of the target area as a marker, and its validity and effectiveness have been demonstrated. However, there is a difficulty in its application in the image recognition type AR method since the CG is superimposed on the basis of 2D image, for example, when the user moves the camera from the marker or the number of feature points inside the image are small amount. On the other hand, smart devices equipped with simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology that enables 3D space recognition and self-localization are emerging and attracting attention. In this research, we proposed an AR visualization system based on this SLAM technology. The present system is applied to the visualization for several applications in numerical simulations and the validity and the effectiveness is investigated by the comparison with the past marker-less AR visualization system. From the results, the present system is shown to be a useful tool for AR visualization.
