Predicting seismic loss is critical for improving the seismic resilience of a building. A prediction method of seismic loss is proposed based on building information model (BIM) technology and the next-generation performance-based design method in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) P-58 report. Specially, to reduce the workload of structural modeling, an approach of seismic damage predictions is designed using BIM and FEMA P-58, which can directly convert BIM to structural model and provide the seismic damage for loss predictions. Then, an algorithm based on the repair norm and BIM is developed to modify the loss functions in FEMA P-58, through which the more accurate seismic loss can be predicted. Finally, a six-story office building in Beijing, China is used as a case study to predict the seismic loss. The results indicate the predicted loss agrees with the statistical loss from the actual earthquakes. The outcome of this study provides an efficient and accurate method for predicting the seismic loss of a building.
