This paper presents the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the management of existing social housing buildings. It presents first the increasing challenges of the management of the social housing, then it discusses how the BIM system could help to meet these challenges by the creation of a friendly comprehensive platform including the information about the building and equipment as well as historical and maintenance. The benefits of the BIM model in social housing management are illustrated by using the construction of the BIM model for residence Triolo which includes 50 dwellings. This construction permits to collect and to store available information in a unique system with advanced graphic tools. The system offers also ease tools to update this information. The result reveals that although the construction of the BIM model for an old building requires an important effort for data collection, it exhibits high advantageous in asset management.
