Background: Breast cancer is a significant health concern for women in Nigeria. It has become an increasingly important public health problem in developing countries. This study examined behavioural risk factors predisposing urban women in micro-enterprises to breast cancer.
Method: Two FGDs were conducted in the two LGAs. The study adopted both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The quantitative aspect employed a cross sectional study using a structured questionnaire while the qualitative study was a community based structured-face-to-face interview among women in child bearing age (15-49 years) who are experiencing cancer and those who are not in a 60:40 ratio.
Results: Coded data have been analysed while the qualitative data are being transcribed and analyzed using systematic-content-analysis technique.
Conclusion: The study shows that behavioural risk factors predispose women to breast cancer. The paper concludes that women in the study area need more enlightenment on breast cancer and some assertiveness training.
Key words: Breast cancer, risk factors, women, child bearing age, micro-enterprises
