Introduction and Aim: Burnout is a prolonged response to chronic emotional and interpersonal stressors on the job. It's the most important risk factors that can be predicted by emotional intelligence. Therefore, this study was aimed to investigate the effects of emotional intelligence on burnout of managers in selected hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
Method: This study was cross sectional descriptive and analytical. Statistical sample included entire population of senior, middle and executive managers of urban hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Maslach Burnout Inventory, Bradberry & Greaves's Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire and demographic questionnaire were used to collect data. SPSS-19 software was used to analyze data. 17.3 % of study participants aged less than 40 years old, 36% were in the age group 44-40 years old, 21.3 % were in the age group 49-45 years old and 25.3% aged 49 years old.
Results: There was not significant difference between emotional intelligence and burnout.
Discussion and Conclusion: Knowledge and emotional management skills can propel people toward achieving effective and useful goal. Since emotional intelligence is property acquired, offer emotional intelligence training is implemented in-service training of Tehran University urban Hospitals. In addition efficiency and quality of hospital care be increased to reduce burnout.
