This is a reflection session within the SIG Public Service Motivation. The session starts with a presentation the application of Public Service Motivation to the field of practice by James L. Perry. Public Service Motivation is more than a theoretical concept or measurement construct. It roots within work organizations of all type and within practitioners' daily work attitudes and behaviors. However, did research on Public Service Motivation pay enough attention to how practitioners could make use of the concept? Do we know how PSM has been applied in organizations? What do practitioners think about this phenomenom developed by scientists? James Perry will deal with these questions as they are highly relevant for the future of Public Service Motivation. After the keynote presentation there will be a roundtable discussion about the past, present, and future of Public Service Motivation research. There has been a steep increase in publications over the past decades. Will this continue? What are the urgent questions and future avenues of interest for the scientific community as well as for public organizations? Public institutions are changing, managerialism is not dead, digital technologies are changing the workplace etc. What does this mean for Public Service Motivation research? We invite all conference participants to join the discussion on the future of one of the homegrown research concepts of Public Administration research.
