A phenomenon of interest, both academic and international, whose assessment represents conceptual and methodological challenges, the fragility of the State concerns its ability to exercise certain functions or not, and may generate internal and external disturbances to the nation. The statehood construct, in turn, configures the structural characteristics of states and their permanence in conditions that may or may not be successful in relation to fragility. Regional destabilization and the inability to sustain itself at the international level, alongside internal fragility, are among the possible causes and / or consequences of the loss of legitimacy vis-à-vis citizens, weakening the state's control over the territory itself. Thus, this essay starts from a systematic review of the literature with the key terms Fragility of State, Statehood and Political Legitimacy. By means of the established analysis protocol, 27 scientific articles were considered, which evidenced the presence of a research gap, allowing the construction of the following assumption: the loss or variation of governmental legitimacy, either internally or externally, and which may occur by the omission of the State, may be the cause or effect of the condition of the country's fragility vis-a-vis the international community.
