This paper examines various housing routes among young singles in Taiwan. Unlike the widely accepted nest leaving perspective in suggesting leaving home and starting their own housing career as the passage for getting independent in the early adulthood, this paper addresses that various forms of young singles’ housing and living arrangement in Taiwan indicates that housing is not only an outcome of young singles’ housing decision but also is a kind of resources embedded in young singles’ social relations. This study uses recent survey data from the Panel Study of Family Dynamics (PSFD) to examine factors relating to young singles’ housing arrangement in Taiwan. We investigate how both factors from parents and young singles influence young singles’ housing arrangement in which familiar resources are closely related to the young singles housing access.
