The purpose for this workshop is to reinforce the importance of a play-based curriculum in the early childhood classroom. In the early years, research links play to the development of self-regulation skills and social skills. There is also a connection to promoting language, motor skills, and cognitive development. Participants will build a common background by exploring the types of play and analyzing video examples of a variety of play schemes and games. Participants will actively engage in play schemes and games while documenting the skills being utilized. How can teachers make the bridge between playing and purposeful learning linked to their curriculum? This will be explored by linking play skills and academic skills. How can teachers use scaffolding to support the play opportunities for all their students? Teachers will leave with strategies and lesson plans that support intentional play in the classroom by linking it to curriculum.

Setting-4 tables with 5 chairs at each table/extra long table for materials/wall space to put up posters
