A number of studies have focused on the attitude toward women managers across many nations. A few of these studies have focused on the attitude toward women managers in China. The survey instrument that was used in these studies has a cultural component that can only be unearthed by validation on a national basis. Since most of the studies using the Women As Managers scale (WAMs) have been comparative in nature, the implication heretofore is that no cultural variation is observable in the use of the WAMs. Therefore, the focus of this research study was not only to highlight the gender differences in the attitude toward women managers in China, but additional analysis was also undertaken to explore the ‘universalistic’ and ‘particularistic’ components of the Women As Managers’ scale (WAMs). Consistent with previous studies, our results indicate that Chinese women have more positive attitude toward women managers than their male counterparts but future researchers may need to validate the WAMs scale before suing it in cross-cultural studies.
