Since the launch of RADARSAT-1 in 1995, the Government of Canada has increased its operational use of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data from sea ice monitoring, to support a large variety critical activities, ranging from crop monitoring to ship detection to helping coordinate rescue team on the ground following a natural disaster.
