The documentary EQB for All: The Oral History of LGBTQ+ Sewanee examines the unspoken and unacknowledged history of the LGBTQ+ community on campus through video interviews. This independent study arose out of a previous group project which I worked on with another student for Politics of LGBT Rights. I interviewed alumni from various decades and asked them a series of questions pertaining to their status as a LGBTQ+ student and alumni. There has hardly been any research or attention towards the study of LGBTQ+ Sewanee. This aspect of Sewanee’s history has been hidden or consciously ignored. I wanted to combine my passion of video production and LGBTQ+ studies into a personalized course. I personally contacted all alumni to find a time to interview over skype or face to face. Following the interviews, I reviewed the footage and edited the footage to create the documentary. My findings do not describe the entire LGBTQ+ history of Sewanee, but only the fraction of the persons who were kind enough to tell their story. EQB for All: The Oral History of LGBTQ+ Sewanee approaches a subject which many consider to be taboo and allows persons who have impacted the LGBTQ+ history of this place to share their story.
