				    This presentation examines the differences between media disasters and anthropological disasters using the 2015 Nepal earthquakes as a case study. It offers a critical look at the concept of 'natural disasters' and considers the ways in which the American mainstream media construct and portray natural disasters. In addition it discusses some of the specific narratives the media use to portray and construct natural disasters. Lastly this presentation outlines possible consequences of the media's portrayal of disasters.
