My presentation will center on the writing of my thesis, which is an exploration and discussion of the role of literature and nonfiction writing on wolf eradication and recovery. I will focus specifically on how this history has played out in Montana: integrating a personal narrative that illustrates the incongruous experience of being heavily influenced by a few key figures in wolf recovery while simultaneously being surrounded by a community where the presence of wolves is still highly contested. Finally, I hope to expand on what an understanding of wolf history and management means for conservation in general, and ultimately close with a reconciliation of what I once thought where unbridgeable gaps in perceptions of nature and the wild.
