I created “Real” out of a fascination with the intersection of graphic imagery and non-sync audio storytelling. In addition to helping my friend Anna process a major life change that came about this past Thanksgiving, creating this piece helped us work through our changing, dynamic friendship in response to that. She is incredibly articulate in her speech, and her story served as a nice creative backdrop. I was inspired by Bianca Giaever’s (Middlebury Class of 2012.5) 2015 piece, “I Love You,” created for NPR’s Videos 4 U, and I used a combination of Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Photoshop to edit the video and create the moving text and imagery.
