Over the past two years we have produced over 150 pages of documentation envisioning a makerspace at Middlebury. This work covers initial grant proposals, bills passed through student government, proposals for space reallocation, and architectural feasibility studies. Why have we done all this work? Because a makerspace offers immeasurable value to Middlebury's community. A makerspace is a workshop, an educational facility, an incubator, and a community center. It is a place that supports the free pursuit of curiosity and equips people with the tools to physically manifest ideas. In our presentation we will discuss what physically constitutes a makerspace, what a makerspace would mean for our community, what work we've done so far to create one here, and what work remains for the future.
