Lake Christine, in Northern NH, is surrounded by 5 mountains and 10,000 acres of protected watershed. In 1882, several wealthy families from Washington D.C. bought the lake and established the Percy Summer Club. Seven homes were erected on the lakeshore, of which Kalorama Lodge was the grandest. It is said to have featured a double-height entrance hall with dueling double-helix birch staircases which built to a central landing. In 1961, Kalorama was intentionally burned to the ground and bulldozed. In the 1970s, a humble cottage was slapped up on the lot. Our family acquired the property in 1991 and have been working ever since to restore it to its former beauty. I have spent the last 3 years and two independent studies researching the historic home and designing a renovation to the cottage that unifies several outbuildings and cuts into the 2nd floor of the cottage to allow natural light to filter into a newly created Great Hall. Construction is slated to begin this coming fall and I will be working alongside a contractor to execute the design. The presentation will feature historic photographs, new renderings and drawings, and a large show model of the renovation scheme.
