The Addison Collective is an all-encompassing design proposal for a political action center that strives to provide advocacy and education for underrepresented communities in the Addison County region, particularly undocumented migrant farmer workers and recent refugees fleeing war. This would come in the form of legislative and medical aid by local and global organisations that would occupy offices in the building, and a library and computer lab for use of contacting relatives and friends in their respective countries.
The proposed building and site thus gives a voice to underrepresented communities in the area and provides a space for political discourse among the public, pertaining to very important and sometimes polarised issues that span the local and the global, such as immigration.
Collaboration between the College community and new and old town members will be encouraged in this space: an intercultural hub allows for the exchange of cultures, as it transforms into an international arts and crafts/food market on the weekends. The aim is for this political action center to develop into an inviting, productive and progressive space that favours learning, understanding, and justice in all aspects of life.
