At this poetry reading, we will engage with two poems written for "The Structure of Poetry" writing workshop: A poem about friendship, and a nonsensical poem about math and politics.
A poet's creativity and style are expressed not only through the words and sounds of a poem, but also through its form, the way the words and punctuation are laid out on the page. At this poetry reading, we will see the poems projected onto the wall as they are read aloud. This way, we will be able to appreciate both the auditory and visual components of the poems simultaneously. The two poems we will read are structured quite differently. We will strive to improve our understanding of why a poem might lend itself to being structured in a certain way as well as how the experience of the poem changes when the form changes.
