What Preparatory School Students Think of Native and Non-native Teachers

Elif Kemaloglu-Er has loved learning, teaching and doing research all her life. She is an English language instructor at Bogazici University, School of Foreign Languages. She has been working as an English instructor for 19 years. She received her BA in Translation Studies from Bogazici University and completed her MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language at Bilkent University and is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Foreign Language Education at Bogazici University. She is writing her PhD dissertation on ELF-aware pre-service teacher education supervised by Prof. Dr. Yasemin Bayyurt and Associate Professor Nicos Sifakis. Her research interests include Foreign Language Education, English as a lingua franca (ELF) and World Englishes, ELF pedagogy, ELF in teacher education, pre-service and in-service teacher education and technology enhanced learning.   

Yasemin Bayyurt

Bogazici University

Yasemin Bayyurt (Ph.D.) is a full professor in the Department of Foreign Language Education at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey. She graduated from Boğaziçi University, Department of Foreign Language Education. She completed her MA and PhD at Lancaster University in England, specializing on discourse analysis and pragmatics. Dr. Bayyurt has been teaching at the Department of Foreign Language Education, Boğaziçi University, since 1996. Her publications include articles in various refereed and indexed journals, and book chapters and books in the field. Her research interests include cross-/inter- cultural communication, Sociolinguistics, English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and World Englishes, ELF pedagogy, ELF in teacher education, pre-service and in-service teacher education, technology-enhanced learning, and curriculum design.
