With the rapid changes in technology, the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has largely influenced the way learners acquire language.Employing Web 2.0 technologies in education helps students to develop the skills they need in the twentieth century.Web 2.0 technologies have been widely used as a supplementary learning tool giving students independence in learning. They allow students to express their interests and work collaboratively with teachers and peers .Social Networking Sites (SNSs) provide a good environment to support educational activities by providing interaction, collaboration, active participation, sharing information and critical thinking. SNSs such as Facebook, Twitter and Edmodo allow access to more resources in terms of learning and sharing. Thus, the tasks that make use of Web 2.0 interactivity can significantly raise students' attention to generate meaningful output and stimulate their interest in language learning.Web based social learning includes variety of application such as Edmodo, Facebook and Twitter which are highly employed in language teaching as well as translation teaching. Web-based social learning applications and their employment in language classrooms is the ground upon which this study stands.
Edmodo is a safe environment that might enhance students' learning. Teachers post announcements and assignments for their students. Students use Edmodo to communicate with their teachers to ask questions about lessons and homework and collaborate with other classmates on activities and project ideas. In addition to Edmodo, SNSs like Facebook and Twitter have become commonplace in the lives of young adults around the world.
