After almost three years of discussion and debate, the new Education Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and associated targets were agreed in August 2015, though their formal adoption by heads of state will take place at the September 2015 UN Summit in New York. The new education agenda, with a 2030 deadline, is hugely ambitious. And yet, in spite of all the discussion on what should be included in the Education SDG, we are not that much clearer about the type of global governance structure and sustainable financing that are needed to implement these new development ambitions for education.
The paper sheds light on this crucial missing element of the post-2015 education discussions to date, by addressing the global governance of education and training and the means of implementation of the education post-2015 agenda.
