Connect Teaching: ICT in Teacher Professional Development: South Sudan's teaching workforce is one of the least qualified and inexperienced in the world with an estimated only 44% of teachers with any training and so subsequently learning outcomes are exceptionally low. Despite the fact that most of the schools in South Sudan have no access to ICT, digital technology and even electricity War Child Holland aimed to address some of the quality issues of teachers with this innovative program. Connect Teaching harnessed the power of tablets to provide a self-study teacher professional development course and previously unavailable resources, to teachers in rural and remote areas. The resources include the ideas and resources for imaginative and effective lessons as well as tools to enable teachers to improve their theoretical knowledge. It is hoped that the learning from the project will help inform how technology can improve the quality of teachers and impact on pedagogy in insecure and remote areas.
