DFID has a Research Advisory Group. This year the group has expanded to include an education and humanitarian specialist. I was invited to take on the ‘Education Specialist’ role.
I would like to use this session to explain something about the role of the group .
There are currently three broad aims for DFID research
• To support the development of new technologies which would reduce poverty or the effects of poverty, such as drugs, vaccines or drought-tolerant crops
• To find better and more cost effective ways of delivering aid and development assistance to those that need it
• To support understanding of key development questions to support best policy choices
The DFID Research Advisory Group objectives include providing strategic advice on key objectives, ensuring DFID policies are informed by the best available scientific evidence, advising on the development and delivery of DFID’s forward research portfolio and participating in horizon and long-range scenario planning. I will elaborate on these and other objectives at the outset of the session.
