6Aika Future Circular Economy Hubs (CircHubs) project
is a joint venture with operators from all 6Aika - areas in Finland. Our target is to boost business and innovations related to circular economy.
The project is realized in the consortium of eight partners including Business Tampere (coordinator), Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority HSY, Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto, Kiertokaari, Tampere University of Technology, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Finnish Environment Institute Syke and Ecofellows.
Project aims to increase understanding of future business opportunities related to recycling and reuse of materials, to develop know-how and abilities for their utilization, to promote piloting new technologies and business models in circular economy hubs and accelerate applicability and scalability of the best solutions.
The key activities of the project address improved knowledge of material flows (analyses and foresight), improvement of information transfer and availability within circular economy networks along with business opportunity mapping and business model, value network and R&D&I platform concept development.
In relation to construction with alternative materials, for instance in Tampere Region innovations related to i.e. ground masses, ash & slag and pulp mill zero fiber utilization are underway within our circular economy platforms Kolmenkulma, Hiedanranta and Tarastenjärvi. In the capital area, HSY is finding out how the waste incineration slag could be used as a raw material for different industries and developing ways on how to utilize the left over side streams from construction waste processing.
