EDM International Inc.

Libby Mojica is a certified wildlife biologist with EDM International in Fort Collins, CO where her research is focused on understanding and preventing avian electrocution and collisions with infrastructure. She has published scientific articles on Bald Eagles and Golden Eagles including conflicts with wind energy development, migration ecology, communal roosts, eagle use of landfills, and modeling electrocution and collision risk for eagles. At EDM, she also conducts research on electrocution of Golden Eagles, assists in coordinating compensatory mitigation for eagle take permits with electric pole retrofits, and develops Avian Protection Plans for utilities. In addition, she has more than 10 years of experience in managing projects associated with conservation of threatened and endangered species, bird migration, satellite telemetry, contaminants, and avian management conflicts on military property. Libby received her M.S. from the University of Georgia and is the president-elect for the Raptor Research Foundation, an international society of professional raptor researchers.

Abstract

Collisions with anthropogenic structures are a significant and well documented source of mortality for avian species worldwide. The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is known to be vulnerable to collision with wind... [ view full abstract ]
