Golden Eagle Movements in the Upper Midwest: New Insight into Wind Energy Siting

Mark Martell is a Senior Ecologist with Tetra Tech Inc. with more than 35 years of experience in wildlife research and management in the United States and internationally. His primary focus at Tetra Tech is on avian and bat issues with an emphasis on eagles for the wind and other energy sectors. He provides technical expertise on avian surveys, eagle conservation plans, bird and bat conservation plans and conservation planning. He was formerly Director of Bird Conservation for the National Audubon Society’s Minnesota State Office where he was involved in a variety of avian and land use issues. Prior to that he was a Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota where among other projects he was co-coordinator of the Midwest Peregrine Falcon Restoration Program and the Minnesota Osprey Reintroduction team. He has conducted migration studies using satellite telemetry on golden eagles, bald eagles, ospreys, broad-winged hawks and Swainson’s hawks. He is a member of the eastern golden eagle working group, and was a member of the National Bald Eagle Recovery Team. He serves as a technical reviewer for a number of scientific journals and has published nearly 50 articles in scientific publications.
