My study uses a survey to measure experiences of intimate partner violence (IPV) among the student population at Adrian College and residents at the Catherine Cobb shelter in Adrian. IPV is similar to domestic violence, but is limited to physical, emotional, or sexual violence between dating people or intimate partners. I hope to determine the prevalence of IPV and any number of possible risk factors that may increase the likelihood of becoming a victim of IPV. These risk factors may be related to gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or having witnessed of IPV while growing up. The findings from this research, can inform future implementation of preventative measures to lower rates of IPV. My research will address two Ribbons of Excellence: caring for humanity and the world and thinking critically.
